ten decades has my spirit been made to roam forever

I was young, petite, and pale on that night in August
when I fled down the trail through the ancient forest
suddenly around my neck tight as a collar
I felt the dark manifest the hands of my father

One hundred lonely summers I've wept in the walls
one hundred dreary winters I've wandered these halls unending

I was drug by my heels light as a feather
through a wide, violet field of wild heather
my eyes were fixed upon the sky with brutal stillness
a harvest moon rising high was the only witness

I awoke as we crossed over the threshold
my cheeks as white as winter frost and fingers ice cold
he planted me in the ground my pleading ignored
a pile of bones to be found beneath the floorboards
